Webcast Invitation: EMI Characterization and Filtering of DC-DC Converter Modules

Date & Time: November 17, 2009, 10.00 GMT, 60 minutes
Presentation & video demostration by Marco Panizza, European Applications Manager, Vicor

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) has traditionally been a key issue that engineers face while designing power solutions. All switchmode power converters are a potential source of electromagnetic noise, both conducted and radiated because during the switching process high currents are forced to turn on and off with steep rise and fall times, and large voltage swings may excite parasitic circuit elements causing spurious, high frequency oscillations.

It is important to know the EMI problems from the very basics, and act handling it from the very early stage of development of any power electronic equipment. The later the problem is tackled, the larger the issues become, and the more difficult and heavier are the solutions to it.

"EMI Characterization and Filtering of DC-DC Converter Modules” webcast covers these topics: – Basics of EMI – Test setup and EMI measurements – Characterization of noise sources – Testing with "Y" capacitors – Filter limitations and practical solutions – Noise sources and coupling

Field application engineers from Vicor deal with variety of EMI-related requirements and standards for customers working on a wide variety of applications across the world every day. “With this experience, we are able to guide the design engineers to address the specific issues of their projects avoiding long and cumbersome ‘trial and error’ interactions”, says Marco Panizza, presenter of this webcast.
